Random Friday Fo’ Shizzle

Aiden’s feeling much better.  He hasn’t thrown anything up since 10:30 am.  Thanks for all the well-wishes.  I appreciate it, anyway.

So, we’re have the winterguard sleepover here tonight.  Here’s my plan of attack:  Make individual mini pizzas, play little kid games in the back yard, watch movies, play board games, boys sleep in a tent in the backyard, girls sleep on the floor in the house, make muffins for breakfast.

I figure if I keep them busy with silly stuff, it will be good bonding time and it will keep anyone from causing trouble and stuff.  I’ll have to take pictures to show you guys my guard kids.

Parker has a new look.  We call it “Gene Simmons as a baby.”  At some point I’m going to get out my Halloween makeup and make up his face.  Does that make me a bad mommy or just a really wierd mommy?  I think it would be funny!  Anyway… what do you think?

I was listening to my mix CD from Erica that is really Green Day heavy (just the way I like it!!) and one of my favorite songs came on.  You know it, I’m sure.  “Basketcase”.  So much of the song is just sooooooo me:

Do you have the time
To listen to me whine
About nothing and everything all at once
I am one of those
Melodramatic fools
Neurotic to the bone no doubt about it
Sometimes I give myself the creeps
Sometimes my mind plays tricks on me
It all keeps adding up
I think I’m cracking up
Am I just paranoid
Or am I just stoned

Grasping to control
So I better hold on
Sometimes I give myself the creeps
Sometimes my mind plays tricks on me
It all keeps adding up
I think I’m cracking up
Am I just paranoid
Or am I just stoned

Currently reading:  Stop Dressing Your Six Year Old Like A Skank by Celia Rivenbark.  Now, this is one funny book.  She goes through everything from children and going to Disney for Spring break, to husbands and rebates, to celebrities and soap operas.  There is a bit of swearing in the book, so don’t read it if you don’t want that.  Otherwise, this is written as if the author were sitting there, talking to you on a porch swing with a cup of sun tea (Oh yeah, it’s very Southern, too).  It’s a fun read, so I recommend it.

And now, folks, I must go clean the family room.  And the kitchen.  And the bathroom.  All within the next hour and a half.  ~sigh~

  1. Oh my goodness — that tongue phase was always my favourite! I don’t think it gets cuter than an infant with his tongue sticking out, it’s just the cutest trick ever. But with Kiss make-up? Well! That might just skyrocket you beyond all coolness.

  2. Hope all goes well with the sleepover–unless it was last night, ten I hope it went well!

The book sounds inteesting. Would it appeal to a broad range of ages? Our bbokclub has high schoolers to retirees. We try for a wide range of books for that reason. We just did A Town Like Alice by Nevill Shute–I highly recommend it.

  3. I admit it…I had to go do a google search on who Gene Simmons is. But I laughed when the first picture that came up was with the makeup and tongue out!!! Ahhhh, now I remember!

I hope the sleepover goes well! Is it held so that the kids can bond or are you supposed to practice stuff too? It sounds like a lot of fun!

  4. Green Day are persona non grata (personae non gratae?) around here. Not that I have an opinion one way or the other, but the 11-year-old in the house does. And he doesn’t like them. He thinks they are a bunch of whiners. I guess he doesn’t have the time to listen to them whine. 😉

This just cracks me up every single time. Hee hee hee!

  5. whiners? seriously? set that kid straight before he heads down a road of terrible music for life. have him compare green day to blink 182, unwritten law, or simple plan (all emo bands). that’s whiney music.

It’s not a competition. And I would agree with The Boy. Green Day is pretty whiney. But they speak to me, man!! 🙂 Besides, for an 11 year old, you’d be amazed at what great music The Boy listens to.

  6. The Green Day etc. comments reminded me–for youth night, they had kareoke, and Richard was the best with what else? BNL “If I Had a Million Dollars”…what kind of music are they?

    The awesome kind.

  7. alternative rock.

    but funny answer sariah.

I know they are alternative. Most of your so-called emo bands are actually considered alternative. Or punk. Or just rock. I think emo is less about the bands and more about the listener’s attitude and choice of clothing and hairstyle.

I thought I was pretty funny, though. 😉
