I don’t know how many of you have heard of this, but there is a really cool event called The 3 Day. It is basically a 3 day, 60 mile walk to raise funds for the Susan G. Koman foundation for research on breast cancer. This is not just any walk, either. You have to register and raise $2,200. You train and hopefully join a team. It’s held in cities all across the States in September, October, and November. For full information, visit the official site here.
I really want to do this. Ever since I’ve heard of it, I just have really felt like this is something I can do to help improve the world around me. 60 miles is a LOT of walking. Three days! That scares me a bit, but I will train like mad and I will do it. So… I’m putting out feelers before I actually register. I have to raise $2,200, and I obviously don’t have that kind of money. So I’m asking if you, my family and friends, will commit to donate money. I also ask that you will ask your friends and family members to also donate. I will write up a good letter explaining what I’m doing and why, and you are welcome to send it to whoever you please. Would you all be willing to help me in this quest?
My grandmother had breast cancer. She had a masectomy and survived that particular cancer. My grandmother was one of the most amazing women I have ever known. I never knew her to complain of losing one breast. I don’t even remember her being sick (no, I don’t think we lived near her when it happened). I don’t actually know a lot, but I know that she was strong. She was a survivor. My grandmother passed away almost 6 years ago, and I miss her constantly. I want to walk to help other women like my grandmother. I want to walk to give other women hope. I want to walk to help find a cure and put an end to breast cancer!! Will you help me?

I think it is so great that you are doing this! What a wonderful cause. I will pledge something, but nothing near enough to get you to your goal — you definitely need some non-poor friends.
Good luck!
Hee hee. Non-poor friends. That’s why I’m begging you to beg your families, too!
Anyrate, any little bit will count. I don’t expect huge amounts from most people I know. Having your support in all areas means the world to me. Thank you!

Yes, I will absolutely support you and give a donation. Good for you! At some point I want to do the walk too (my Grandma had exactly the same situation as yours) and until then I will support those who do!
K.
Thanks, Kris! You rock. Once I register, I’ll let you know what information you need to donate.

I think that is so awesome! I will talk to Paul about the possibility – the only thing is that we have our own Heart Walk coming up and most of our dontion funds go to that and to the Children’s Heart Foundation (way too many awesome causes to donate to)- we may not be able to do much, but we might be able to do at least something.
I have until like November or something. I haven’t signed up yet (waiting for Ches to make a couple of decisions), but hopefully will soon. Don’t worry too much about it.
Every little bit helps! And yeah, there are just too many causes that I wish I could donate to, you know? I wish I had billions of dollars that I could just pass out to causes and people I know… oh well.

We were there when Grandma had the cance…you wre just very young. [1st/2nd grade?] She knew what to expect somewhat, because her mother also had breast cancer in her 50’s. Yes, I get my regular checks. I’ll talk to Dad about any donation, but you know our circumstances…if it were next year…

Mom had breast cancer the year we went to England, and I think that was in 1986, possibly 1987. I’ll never forget how she found the lump the day before we left, never mentioned it to me ’til we got home (she didn’t want me to worry during the trip), and had the mastectomy two days after we got back. And you’re right — she never complained. Not a single time. She always said she had it easy because she didn’t have to go to chemo, but I can’t believe there’s *anything* easy about a mastectomy and radiation. And yes, I will be happy to donate $5/mile. I think it’s amazing that you’re going to do this.

You can definitely do it! The Breast Cancer 3-Day offers lots of tools to help you train and fundraise. And even if you don’t think this is your year to participate as a walker, consider crewing or volunteering.
You can speak with a Breast Cancer 3-Day coach at 1-800-996-3DAY to get a lot more information. Best of luck!
