The Sariah

I was bored and avoiding going to bed (don’t ask me why… I’m super tired), and I decided to do a Google search on my own name.  I wanted to see how many other Sariahs I would find, and I wanted to see how quickly my name came up.  I was actually on the first page, but it was a link for an article about making the dean’s list waaaaaay back in my university days.  Or maybe that’s what I found when I was doing the search for Chesley.  I don’t really remember.  It’s getting pretty late.

Anyway, I looked some more, and I found a prom dress.  The Sariah prom dress!  It’s really pretty, but I don’t think it’s actually me.  Too ruffly and puffy in the skirt, but I really like the bodice.  Oh, and it’s mostly white, which is NOT a good color for me.  I get all washed out looking, and with all the weight I’ve gained the past few years, white is not my friend.  The only time I ever thought I looked good in white was on my wedding day.

Wow, I’m quite the rambler tonight, aren’t I?  So, if you want to check out “my” dress, the Sariah, click here.  I wish I were a fashion designer and could come up with something that actually would be more me.  Or I wish I were 17 again and going to prom so I could wear this dress (and be super skinny again so I could look good in this dress) and when people say, “what are you wearing”, I could say “The Sariah!”

Although, I don’t really want to be 17 again.  It was fun having a reason to dress up al fancy, though. We don’t really get those opportunities anymore. ~sigh~

Oh, and maybe if I throw in my name, Sariah, a whole bunch of times, when someone does a Google Search for Sariah, they will immediately find my blog.  If you are searching for Sariah, please feel free to leave a comment.  Just be nice.  We can be friends.  That’s how I met Sariah in Vancouver, after all! :)

Clean Room, Kisses, Phone Call

Here is this week’s Happy Wednesday segment (sorry that I missed last week!  I’m sure you’ll all survive).

1.  Aiden putting dirty clothes in the laundry basket, a book on the bookshelf, and toys in the closet so he could have a clean room when he went to bed.  (and it was all his idea to pick up before he got into bed! )

2.  Slobbery, sticky, huge kisses from my baby.

3.  Phone calls from my SIL just because she felt like calling me.

Checking In

I have recieved emails and phone calls of concerned friends because I haven’t posted in a while, so I thought I’d let you know that I’m still here and I’m okay.  Yeah, I’ve been a little down, but nothing to worry about.  The biggest reason I haven’t posted is that I just haven’t been too inspired.  I hate it when I feel like my blog has become this mundane account of what’s going on around my house.  Bleh.  I don’t find it interesting, so why should you?

The second reason I haven’t posted is that Laural got me all addicted to Weff Riddles.  We’re just about to the end of Batch Four.  One batch to go.  I hate it.  However, I have to see this through.  I don’t know why.  I guess I have to prove to myself that I can do this, I have something of a brain in my head, and that I can actually finish something.

So, that’s what’s going on.  I’m not extra depressed or overwhelmed with my life right now.  Okay, I might be feeling a little blah and I’m pretty much always overwhelmed, but I’m pretty used to it.  I’m just uninspired and will start to write again soon.  Keep me in line, my friends.  I’ll be back.  Soon.

Painting the House

If you have seen my Flickr pictures (and I think most of you have now!), you have seen the proud painting of my two little monsters.  I was here in the computer room yesterday, trying to solve a riddle with Laural, thinking the boys were happily watching their favorite video du jour, when Aiden came in and proudly announced, “Mom!  We were painting!  We painted the walls and the doors!”  I looked at Aiden’s hands, covered in marker, and almost had a heart attack.  I’m not even kidding.

I went to the living room and family room, and saw all that you see in the pictures.  I had a panic attack.  I haven’t had one of those in a while.  Once I recovered, I sent the boys to their room, grounded them from any TV for the rest of the day, and got to work.  The markers are the washable kind, and I guess highlighter comes off pretty well, too.  The purple left marks, but everything else seems to come off easily.  I guess the owners of the house may have used that paint that lets you wash it easily?  I don’t remember what it is.  I’ve just seen commercials or something for paint that if your kids draw on it, you can wash it easily without stipping any of the paint (which is what happened in our first apartment in Nevada.  Seriously, wipe it once, and the paint was totally gone!).

Today I am going to get some new Magic Erasers (man, I sure love those things!!  They really are a little miracle, aren’t they?  Oh, and don’t try to buy some cheap imitation or another brand.  We tried, and they totally don’t work.) then I will get the rest off.

The boys are still alive, Mom.  Barely.  The good thing is, I was able to get them to bed really early last night, and since Ches was gone to do a recording, I got to relax and cool off all on my own.  I bought a Sudoku puzzle book at Target for 50 cents.  Between  Sudoku, Survivor, and left over Easter candy, I went to bed in a pretty good mood.

Now, back to the riddle I was trying to solve.

Gimme Some Skin!

I'm soooooo cool
Look at how cool my iPod is. I mean, it is just awesome, isn’t it? Since I’ve been carrying my iPod everywhere lately, and since my children love to play with it and get their grubby little hands all over it, I’ve been contemplating getting a case or skin of some sort. But I wasn’t too fond with what I saw. Until Tuesday. We were in the mall and passed by a kiosk covered in skins for iPods. I immediately saw a Canadian flag and contemplated how cool that would be. I looked at all the designs (and I saw several that I thought would be perfect for each of you!), and let the salesman give his pitch.

What’s cool is that it’s like a sticker that goes on the front and one on the back (oh, and one for the front button, too). It peels off easily, can be saved for future use easily, and cleans easily (just a little glass cleaner!). And it has a lifetime waranty. Yay! For $15, I was sold. Oh, yeah. And not everyone has one, so now I don’t have to use a Sharpie to write my name on my iPod. :) It’s called Gizmobies. I know I sound like a commercial, but I am easily excited by new things.Go see what else they have. I couldn’t decide between the hearts, Canadian flag (although our anniversary is coming up, and Ches found it pretty cool and has his own iPod…), the Union Jack, or blue camo.

Books, Compliments, and Flowers

Here are this weeks Three Beautiful Things that make me HAPPY!

1.  Buying a brand new, hardcover book that I am so excited to read.  Oh!  And it only cost $10!

2.  Receiving multiple compliments on how great my kids look in their “ethnic” clothes (see Flickr later today for pictures).

3.  The little purple flowers that have randomly sprung up in various parts of the yard.  They’re so pretty!

Happy Wednesday!

The Start…

Ches has an interview today with a high school really close to where we live.  He had to take the whole day off work because of the timing of the interview and the long commute to where he teaches right now, so let’s hope the interview goes well.  The interviewing season as begun!

Holiday Conversations

I was in Target Friday night, shopping for baby shower I was about to attend, when I heard the following conversation:

Father: Oh, this is cute! Look at this, honey, it’s like a little yarmukle. Do you like this one?
Daughter: Yes, Daddy.
Father: Would you like to get this? You can wear it to Temple tomorrow, okay?
Daughter: Thank you, Daddy!!

I then walk by and see the cutest little 4 year old girl with an infant’s white cap on her head. The white cap had bunny ears, eyes, and a little bunny nose.

Anyone else find it kind of funny that this little girl will be wearing and Easter bunny “yarmukle” to Temple??

*****

Earlier this week, Ches and I were doing some housework in a different part of the house from the kids. I inititated the following conversation:

Me: So, is the Easter Bunny going to do the shopping and get the stuff for the Easter basket this year, or does the Easter Bunny’s wife have to do it again like last year?

Loooong pause as Ches looks at me quizzically.

Ches: Ummm, I thought you were the Easter Bunny!

No wonder there was so much confusion (on my part, at least) last year!

A Little Patience, Yeaahhhh-aaaahhh

How do you learn patience?  Other than praying for the Lord to grant me patience in all my dealings (especially concerning my children), I really don’t know what else to do.  I am definitely not a patient person.  I think it makes for an endearing quality at times like Christmas and birthdays when I am not only impatient about opening my gifts, but I want others to open theirs right away, too.  As soon as I buy a gift for Ches and wrap it, I often bring it to him and say, “You want to open it?  Go ahead!”  He always responds with something to the effect of, “My birthday isn’t until tomorrow.  I can wait until then.”  Drives.  Me.  Crazy!

However, with three small kids under the age of 5, I’m finding myself constantly at wit’s end.  I yell a lot and roll my eyes a lot and generally just get upset very easily over little things.  I am constantly having to remind myself that Aiden is only 4 and lives in his own little universe, so he’s just not going to put his shoes one and get into the van as quickly as I would like.  I hate having to ask him to put his shoes on more than once.  Twice gets annoying, three times is frustrating, and the fourth time I lose it.

Then thre’s Dallin with his obsession over his blanket (approriately named Blanket, by the way).  Anywhere we go, he has to have Blanket.  I don’t mind that he has a “lovey”, but it’s when he gets too busy to remember to bring Blanket, then whines and cries for the entire outing for Blanket that really gets me.  Today, for example, I had to go to the grocery store.  Yes, with all three boys.  I was getting them out the door (seriously, a 25 minute task just to walk through the door!!) and I told Dallin, several times, “Get Blanket.  Go get Blanket.”  He got distracted by the mailbox and ran to see if there was anything there.  Which there was.  So I had to unlock the door and put the mail inside.  As I’m strapping everyone in, Dallin finally starts to cry, “Blaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnn-keeeeeeeeeet!!”  Back to the house to unlock the door and get Blanket.  We finally got to the grocery store, I had Parker in the backpack, Aiden standing calmly (for once) beside me (boy, did that not last long!) and was trying to help Dallin out fo the van.  I told him “Don’t forget Blanket” yet again.  He then made a game of picking up Blanket, throwing it back on the seat, then laughing.  I finally got him out of the van and got Aiden to grab Blanket.  Sure enough, as soon as we got to the cart and I put Dallin in his seat, we hear that little voice (muffled by the thumb stuck in his mouth, of course), “Blaaaaaaannnnnnnnn-keeeeeeeeeeeeet!”  I just about lost it then, too.

I hate it when my kids don’t listen, but they are so young, what do I expect?  They actually do well for their ages.  And at least I try and teach them good manners.  I see kids all the time that are worse than mine.  So why in the world can’t I control my temper and be patient?  I’m not asking to be a saint or anything.  I’m going to yell sometimes.  I’m fine with losing my patience every once in a while, because everyone does, right??  But to constantly find myself annoyed and frustrated and distraught over not only my children’s behavior, but my own… well, that’s just not cool.

I’ll keep praying for guidance.  I’ll keep praying for patience.  I need some pointers for all of you experienced moms and all formerly impatient people… Tell me what you do!!

Right away.  Now.   What’s taking you so long?  Didn’t I just write this post about how impatient I am?  Sheesh! ;)

Chocolate, Bedroom, Help

I can’t believe I’ve been so caught up in everything else today that I almost forgot about Wednesday’s Three Beautiful Things That Make Me Happy!!  Sheesh.  Here we go:

1.  Eating Easter chocolates that my son got in preschool but is very willing to share with his chocoholic of a mother.

2  A clean bedroom with freshly vaccuumed floors

3.  Being able to help my sister in her final review of her master’s thesis before it goes in to the professors.
